Where to stay
I am based in the village of Chamonix les Praz. You can choose accommodation in Les Praz, this gives us options to get together in the evenings, but staying in Chamonix or les Houches is fine too. Booking.com will give you plenty. Good 3 star hotels I know include
Les Lanchers, in Chamonix les Praz
Hotel Arve, in Chamonix centre
Self catering is a great option. A couple of my neighbours let their properties in Chamonix les Praz, and I can contact them for you, or you can look on Air B&B, there’s quite a few rentals in Les Praz.
I suggest you don’t book a half board arrangement though, stay flexible, as we may eat out in a mountain hut on our moonlight walk evening, and/or you might want to eat with your fellow snowshoers on other evenings.
Travel
Fly to Geneva, and book a ‘to the door transfer’ with Chamexpress or Mountain drop offs, takes about 1hr 15 mins, cost should be under €30. Or hire a car, if you’re thinking of doing other stuff: Autoeurope is a good site.
Of course, if you have more time, you can also travel here by train using the Eurostar, changingi at Paris.
Everyone’s different, please don’t hesitate to contact me for advice – that’s part of the service!
